The Platform is currently run entirely through the efforts of volunteers – from our Board of Directors to our event volunteers.
Join/Advise a Committee
We have several active committees including Marketing & Programming, Special Events, Property, Sponsorship, Membership, Fundraising, etc. Contact The Platform at info@guelphartsplatform.ca for more details and information about current activities.
We have broken down the volunteer opportunities into two categories: “Long Form” and “Short Form”. Long Form Volunteer Opportunities refer to tasks that will need to be done on an on-going basis for an indefinite period of time – while you won’t be required to commit for any longer then you’re comfortable with, these are usually tasks that benefit from having experienced volunteers, or volunteers willing to learn a particular task or skills and put them to use on more than one occasion. Long Form Opportunities are a great way to be involved with the Platform in an on-going and especially meaningful way. Short Form Volunteer Opportunities refer to volunteer tasks that are event specific, or one-off tasks. These opportunities are ideal for people with busy schedules who would like to participate on an occasional basis and complete very specific, delegated tasks. We encourage our Short Form Volunteers to participate as often as they are willing and able!
Specific Short Form and Long Form Volunteer Opportunities will be listed below.
Special Invents:
The Special Invents Committee meets weekly at Planet Bean (Tuesdays at 1:00 pm). Interested in currently activities and discussions? Come by and share your ideas.

Invent #2: Freeform Video Dance Party
On July 14th, in conjunction with Art on the Street, the Platform will host an exhibition of locally produced music videos in The Square at 86 Wyndham St. (in the walkway near the downtown Post Office). The videos will play from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a special dance accompaniment at 3 o’clock sharp. Refreshments will be provided, prizes will be awarded, and Guelph Arts Platform memberships will be available.
Opportunities:
Film/Video: We will be hosting a friendly music video competition in conjunction with Art on the Street. There will be dance performances, refreshments, and prizes will be awarded. Some of the possible prize categories include:
-Best Incorporation of an alternative art form
-Most creative use of an underutilized space
-Best music video filmed in a continuous shot
-Best new song by a Guelph Artist
-Best collaboration between band and videographer
We are looking for locally made music videos, and/or music videos of Guelph artists. These can be videos from any era, from new or defunct bands, already completed, or being created for this Invent. Youtube links are fine, Quicktime files are better. The deadline for video submissions is July 12th. Videos and links can be sent to jennyplatform@gmail.com
Dance: We are looking for dancers to perform at the Video Dance party. We are open to dancers of any genre. Because this Invent is a fundraiser we are seeking performers who are willing to volunteer their services. That being said, we encourage willing dance performers to participate within a time commitment they feel comfortable with on a volunteer basis. Dancers can perform as part of the Invent at “The Square”, or as roaming volunteers directing people towards the Invent and distributing information.
Roaming/Busking volunteers:
Art on the Street has said that they are allowing buskers, so we thought it would be neat to send some roaming volunteers out “busking” with their art, wandering throughout the stationary tables. These roaming buskers could have a bit of Platform info on hand, but would also be directing people back towards “the Square”, which is the venue where we’ll be showing music videos and having a dance performance. To be a roaming volunteer for this Invent it is not a requirement that you are a performer, but it might be a unique opportunity for performers who are interested in being a part of the festivities that day. Spoken Word artists, dancers, theatre performers, musicians, and any other enthusiastic participants are welcome and encouraged to participate. Ideally, we would like to have 4-6 volunteers working in short shifts. If you’d be interested in participating or would like more information, email Jenny at: jennyplatform@gmail.com
